What do you do with a new notebook? I love perusing them, finding just the right kind, and adding more to my collection. Some I use. Some I plan to use but never do. Maybe one day.

The comprehensive list below is from Ryan Hart. I found his list on Pinterest while I was working on creating my own. Why reinvent the wheel? The one thing I would add would be Junk Journal.

List of notebook uses

Have you ever started a notebook with one purpose, write a page or two, and then decide that you don’t want to continue for whatever reason?

Here are a few ideas of ways I’ve corrected my change of mind and still found a way to use that journal. Unless it’s a spiral bound notebook, you most likely can’t easily and cleanly remove the page, so you’re left with some other creative ideas.

  • Paste an image over the writing
  • Tear out all of the pages and use them in your letter writing as new found stationery
  • Change the journal from a writing journal into a junk journal. In my junk journals I use a combination of printed images and funny memes, found images (think magazines, books, and newspapers), quotes, and much more along with my journal writing or diary keeping. A junk journal post with pictures and videos is coming soon.

What are ways you can think of to use notebooks that have already been written in? What other ways do you use notebooks and journals that are not included in Ryan’s list?

Do you have a notebook collection? I wonder if there a word that describes a collection of notebooks, like a herd of cattle, a murder of crows, or a pod of whales.

You sure got that right. We might even add “Although meant to soothe, they may instead cause slight persistent annoyance, discomfort, or anxiety.

    Hi Jackie

Pasting over and creating an “art file” for me. Yes I have some lovely note books I just cannot write in. I just admire them…

How about a Nest of Notebooks” (:

I think you’re on to something with a Nest of Notebooks. I am unsure if I have one big Nest or a collection of nests. How many would you say make up a nest of notebooks? Ha!
