Stamp Collecting

I’ve started a new hobby: Stamp Collecting. I love seeing fun, different stamps on all of the mail I receive and I make an effort to use stamps that I think the recipient might enjoy. I’ve saved stamps for a long time, mostly by color, some by theme, to use them in my zines, artist trading cards, junk journals, and other creative paper hobbies I enjoy.
When we visited the National Postal Museum in 2010, I purchased a stamp album and have been putting my favorite stamps in there, but I didn’t consider myself a collector as I didn’t seek them out or purchase stamps to get a certain one … until now.

My collection of author/book themed stamps
With the lockdowns and being at home so much, I signed up for some newsletters, joined a couple groups, and purchased my first set of used stamps (Zeppelins & Balloons). I also have favorite stamps with Christmas, famous people, cartoons, and a few other select themes. Some stamps don’t fit within a theme but I like them a lot so save them, like the Uncle Sam stamp below.
Last summer I purchased three cigar boxes filled with over 9,000 postage stamps – mostly used, but some were new. Over the winter, I sorted them by country while setting aside my favorites and any that fit into my collections.
Some resources I’ve used:
You may be interested in the youtube channel, Exploring Stamps. He comes across with such enthusiasm, and humour.
Next, you’ll be wanting that toilet paper stamp Austria produced!
Thanks for that information! I’ll check it out. Sounds interesting. I think I saw mention somewhere of the toilet paper stamp, probably Twitter which is where I see most things (or Instagram).
Hi Mia,
I watched one of his videos yesterday. I forgot I had seen him before when I watched a training video on storing stamps. I hadn’t realized he had a regular channel and was a stamp personality. Thanks again for sharing. I am following him now.
Hi Jackie
Casual Stamp collecting is fun and they can be used in all sorts of ways.
Have you thought about Artist Stamps? A whole other area of fun
Take care
Hester
I love artistamps and have tried at my hand at such, but never really happy with the result. Maybe more experimenting is called for. Do you make artistamps?
I don’t collect stamps. I do donate mine to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Stamp Ministry who sells them to collectors as a fundraiser.

Thanks, Justin! I also donate the stamps I don’t collect or won’t use in my paper art products, so I send them on to different places that repackage them and sell them for donations. Thanks for sharing the place you send yours too.
